Wayne A. West, age 76, of Grand Island, passed away Monday, March 4, 2024 at Tabitha at Prairie Commons surrounded by his loving family.

Wayne was born May 15, 1947, in Lincoln, to Warren and Helen (Prochaska) West. He attended school in Crete and graduated from Crete High School in 1965. When he was growing up, he enjoyed going to the pool hall, dancing and driving his Cushman around. On June 8, 1968, he was united in marriage to Carol Novak at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Crete. To this union, two sons were born.

Wayne attended UN-L, where he received his undergraduate degree and then attended UN-O and received a Specialist in Education degree. He was a teacher and superintendent for many years in Northeast Nebraska at various school districts. In 1980, they moved to Grand Island and he began his career with Skagway. He retired in 2008 as the human resources director after 28 years of employment.

Wayne was a member of Peace Lutheran Church. In his younger years, he was active in the Lions Club, United Way and other community organizations. They had a cabin at Sherman Reservoir and spent 25 summers in a row there. He enjoyed fishing with Carol and his family. He was always supportive, caring and dedicated to his family. He cherished the time he spent with his children and grandchildren. They made many wonderful memories on summer vacations, whether going to Kansas City or Colorado. He was an amazing whistler which has been carried on by his boys. He enjoyed cheering on the Husker football team.

He is survived by his sons, Nathan (Lisa) West and Matthew (Stacie) West; grandchildren, Alec, Bayleigh, Keagan, Preston and Asa.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Carol; parents; and brother, Ken Bors.

The funeral service was March 8 at Peace Lutheran Church. Memorial contributions are suggested to the church. Arrangements by All Faiths Funeral Home in Grand Island.
