Dorothy Marie (Svehla-Rezny) Hessheimer, beloved mother, sister, grandmother and great grandmother, passed away with her loving family by her side on Wednesday April 10, 2024, at the age of 97.

Dorothy was born March 1, 1927, in Exeter, to Joseph and Mary (Korensky) Svehla and grew up on a farm near Tobias, then later in years the family moved to Friend. Dorothy loved the farm life and was the happiest when she was gardening, growing flowers, raising rabbits, chickens and gathering her eggs to sell. Dorothy was well known for her cooking skills. Her specialties were duck, dumplings, sour kraut and of course her kolaches, anything from the Czech tradition and sharing it with anyone who may stop by.

It been hard on many of us to say goodbye, but the Good Lord knew it was time. She made such an impact on so many lives. It is comforting knowing that even though she isn’t physically here anymore she left us many beautiful memories to carry with us each and every day.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; son, Donald Rezny; husbands, Melvin Rezny and Bob Hessheimer; brother, Joe Svehla; sisters and spouses, Helen and Don Hillgren, Josephine and Clarence Pankoke, and Rosie and Don Robinson; brother-in-law, Roger Miller; and her toddler sister, Mary Ann Svehla.

She is survived by her children, Ron Rezny of Crete, and Don and Ann Yost of Lincoln; grandchildren, Brad and Casey Rezny, and Shari Rezny, all of Crete; great-grandchildren, Carter and Brooklynn Rezny of Crete; brother, Leonard Svehla of Crete; sister, Patricia (Svehla-Miller) and husband Don Anderson of Friend; daughter In-law, Joyce Rezny of Crete; sister-in-law, Phyllis Svehla of Friend; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be Saturday, April 20, at 11 a.m. at the Kramer Community Cemetery.  Arrangementsby Kuncl Funeral Home in Crete.
