Joseph W. Kovarik

Joseph William Kovarik, age 91, passed away Oct. 14, 2023, at the Tabitha Journey House in Lincoln. He was born July 9, 1932, on the Kovarik farm south of Crete to Joseph R. Kovarik and Alice E. (Honzik) Kovarik.

Joseph attended country school District #3 and Crete Public Schools. After high school graduation, he attended Doane College. Joseph left Doane prior to graduating to work on the family farm as his father had passed away. Joseph was a Saline County Commissioner and auctioneer.

On July 19, 1953, Joseph married Carole J. (Hudkins) Kovarik and made their home on the family farm. They have three sons, Kelly, Michael and Mark.  

In 1983, Joseph and Carole moved to Lincoln, where Joseph worked as a meat cutter at HyVee. Joseph was a member of the Crete Masonic Lodge #37 and the York Rite.  

Joseph was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Irene, and her husband, Clarence Maca.  

Joseph is survived by his wife, Carole; children, Kelly, Michael and Lori (Tenopir), and Mark and Lisa (Davis); grandchildren, CJ (Lexy), Matthew, Sarah (Austin), Benjamin (Kate), Kirk, Adam (Hailey); and great-grandchildren, Mia and Kayden.
