Evon earned her wings on March 22, 2024, at the age of 83, after a courageous fight with cancer, at Bryan West Hospice in Lincoln.

Evon was born on her family farm in Crete on June 28, 1940, to Arthur and Mamie Jelinek. She lived her life on the farm, and it brought her so much joy.

Evon attended Northward school in Crete and graduated from Crete Public Schools. After graduating, she began working for Formfit Rogers in Crete. Formfit shut its doors in the early 1980s and Evon tried her hand at waitressing. She worked for the Villa Madrid Restaurant and The Crete Truck Stop for a couple of years, she then moved on to Shoemakers Restaurant in Lincoln for 27 years until her retirement in 2010, all the while running the family farm.

Evon met the love of her life, Patrick West, in 1992. Pat joined her on the family farm and the two enjoyed their lives together, taking care of the animals and everything farm life brought to them. Together they had a love for gardening and spending time going to different lakes, fishing, seeing wildlife and enjoying many road trips.

They both enjoyed spending time with family or meeting friends for breakfast and lunch. They also enjoyed spending holidays with their friends. Evon absolutely loved every animal she met. She was a kind, hard working woman that helped out anyone who needed her. She had a fun loving, ornery personality, that was loved by all of those in her life.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Mamie Jelinek. She is survived by her significant other, Patrick West of Crete; stepson, Sean (Jill) West (grandchildren, Logan and Emma West) of Lincoln, Lee West (grandchild, Conner) of Crete; special nieces, Porcha (Frank) Matejka (grandnephew, Frankie) of Crete, Katie (Don) Throener of Daykin; along with special friend/little sis Kelly (George) Scusa of DeWitt.

A Celebration of Life will be Saturday, April 6, from 1 – 3 p.m. at the Crete V.F.W. Memorial contributions may be sent to Kelly Scusa, 209 W. York Ave., DeWitt, NE 68341. A memorial of Evon’s name will be donated to The Cat House Animal Shelter in Lincoln. Arrangements by Kuncl Funeral Home in Crete.
