Evalyn Lucille (Zabel) Tenopir, 97 of Bonnieville, Kentucky, passed away peacefully at home Saturday, Jan. 23, 2021. She was born to Ferdinand Zabel and Mary Katherine (Schimmel) Zabel in Western on June 6, 1923.

She started teaching school when she graduated from high school in Western and went on to graduate nurse's training at Lincoln General Hospital in Lincoln in December, 1945. She married Raymond J. Tenopir on June 23, 1946.

She initially worked in Lincoln and when they moved to Crete, she worked at the Crete Municipal Hospital and then at General Dynamics. Later, she became the school nurse at Crete Public Schools for 17 years. They also lived in Roca and Martell, where they ran the Mobil gas station on Highway 33. Later after moving to Houston, Texas, she worked for Houston Hospice and then returned to Nebraska.

Most recently, she lived with her daughter, Mary Humphrey, and her husband at their residence in Bonnieville.

She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings and her husband, Raymond Tenopir. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Mary Humphrey (Ken), Robert Tenopir (Chris Cooke), Susan Tenopir, Rick Tenopir (Deb), Julie Stovall (Terry) and James Tenopir (Christine Gepte); eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Feb. 28 at Capitol City Christian Church in Lincoln with private internment into Kinkaid Garden at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home in Lincoln.
