Amanda Mae “Mandi”  Herman

Dec. 27, 1985 – March 20, 2023

It all started on New Year’s Eve day in 1985 when Mandi joined our family. We made the trip to Omaha to the Nebraska Children’s Home to pick up the baby we had dreamed of and prayed for. She was the sweetest little girl with the biggest and most beautiful brown eyes and long eyelashes.

Mandi attended Crete Public Schools and graduated in 2004. She joined the golf team for her last two years of school. She was always happy that she learned to play golf and still enjoyed playing when she could. During her high school years, she became a CNA and worked at the Crete Hospital Nursing Home. She enjoyed playing Bingo with the residents and always laughed at how they would cheat.

After high school, she attended Southeast Community College and Doane in Lincoln, where she graduated with a Paralegal Degree. While going to school, she worked at the Lincoln Dialysis Center and State Farm Insurance. After graduation, she was chosen to join the State Farm Legal Office in Indianapolis, Indiana. After several years, she met Dustin McClure and was married in 2013. During that time, they bought a bar in Danville, Indiana. Shortly after, they divorced and she continued to operate the business by herself. She was so proud of how she was able to build the customer base. By doing so, she had many wonderful friends that were her employees and patrons.

COVID came and the bar business came to a halt. At that time, she sold the bar and moved back to Nebraska to be with her family. Due to a degenerative hip, she was disabled and unable to work. She loved spending time outdoors watching the birds and squirrels, of which she called all of them “Gary.”

Her passion was cooking and loved making people happy with food she prepared. She especially enjoyed the time she spent baking with her nephew and nieces.

She passed away very unexpectedly, leaving behind her parents, Dale and Mona Herman; brother, Tim; and her nephew and nieces, Jaxon, Laney and Norah; aunts and uncles, Mick and Pat Gordon, Steve and Donna Snyder; along with her four cousins and many friends.

Mandi was preceded in death by her born-at-rest daughter, Matilda “Tilly” Rose; her grandparents, Hal and Darlene Gordon and Bob and Shirley Herman.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Lincoln Humane Society or Nebraska Children’s Home.

There will be a “Celebration of Mandi” on Saturday, April 15, from 2 – 4 p.m. at the Crete Eagles Club. Arrangements by Kuncl Funeral Home.
