March 20 One Day. One Doane.

Doane University's 24 hour giving campaign is today, March 20. Community members are encouraged to make a donation of any size during the sixth annual 24 hour day of giving with activities held throughout the day on campus.
“This year, we have added ‘Battle of the Decade’ to our ‘One Day. One Doane’ celebration. This is a spin on our traditional 24 hours of giving through a fun way that adds nostalgia for alums and has them rally together in their graduating decades,” said Jessica Pulte, Director of the Doane Fund. “We have a scavenger hunt on campus, a community coffee in the morning, and a ‘Taco-bout Philanthropy’ planned for over the lunch hour. We’ll also have a photo booth opportunity as well as fun throwback pictures and different posts planned for social media. In the end, we'll crown one decade the champion of this year's
battle! We encourage everyone to get involved and show their Doane pride!”
The celebration will finish on Thursday, March 21 with Scooter's Coffee in Crete donating 10% of their sales from 6 to 10 a.m.

Crete Public Schools to host motivational speaker March 28

Crete Public Schools and the Cardinal Community Learning Center are bringing a motivational speaker to Crete on Thursday, March 28, to talk to students and CPS families about safe driving and overcoming adversity.
Fletcher Cleaves, a former college football athlete, was struck head-on by a distracted driver and was left paralyzed. After the wreck, Fletcher became a motivational speaker and started to promote the importance of safe driving and overcoming adversity.

Fletcher has appeared on multiple big-name sports shows including ESPN College Game Day, Sportscenter and Outside the Lines.
Joel Bramhall with the CCLC said they decided to invite Fletcher because his life story embodies the principles of resilience, determination and positive change that Crete aspires to instill in its students.
“Fletcher's journey from a promising college athlete to a quadriplegic, due to a tragic event caused by distracted driving, and his subsequent path to personal and professional success, offers a powerful narrative on the consequences of unsafe driving behaviors and the strength required to overcome life's unexpected challenges,” Bramhall said.

CO2 Pipeline regulations tabled by planning and zoning

The Saline County Planning and Zoning tabled voting on regulations for CO2 pipelines until the next regular meeting on April 16 at 7 p.m. Board members expressed concerns about some of the language in the proposed regulation recommendations drafted by county attorney David Solheim that they would like to have clarification on and possibly modify. Solheim was not present at last night's meeting. Board members notified the public the amount of research needed required of them is substantial and asked for patience.
