The Crete Community Blood Drive will be Tuesday, April 16, from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Crete VFW. Schedule an appointment by contacting Genie at (402) 418-1581 or visit Red Cross Blood.org and enter CreteNECommunity.

Youth Homelessness Matters Day is tomorrow, April 17

The Crete News will be sleeping out Wednesday, April 17 on 13th and Ivy St. in Crete to advocate for children identified as homeless in the Crete school district. The Crete News strives to raise funding that each child is able to receive a new pair of shoes and backpack to begin the school year in the fall.

Hydrant flushing April 16-19

City Water Department employees will flush fire hydrants and water mains on the dates and at locations below from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., weather permitting.
Tuesday, April 16: The portion of Crete south of the Burlington tracks and from Grove Avenue west to the Blue River, and that area west of the Blue River;
Wednesday, April 17: The portion of Crete north of the Burlington tracks;
Thursday and Friday, April 18-19: The portion of Crete south of the Burlington tracks and from Grove Avenue east.
The Public Works Department regrets the inconvenience that will result from the rusty, discolored water. It is necessary to flush the hydrants and mains at intervals to clean them and to check fire hydrant condition. We recommend laundering be postponed until the water has cleared several hours after flushing.

Crete author debuts latest book

Open house April 21 honoring firefighter's 50 years of service

The Crete volunteer fire department is hosting an open house celebrating Terry Petracek's 50 years of service with Crete Fire & Rescue. Petracek joined the department in May of 1974. He has served in many leadership roles, been a mentor to countless new members and dedicates himself to serving the community as a volunteer firefighter and EMT.
The open house will be at the Crete fire station on Sunday, April 21 from 1-3 p.m.

Apace spring concert announced for April 24

The Apace Choir will perform their spring concert on April 24 at 1:30 p.m. The show will be at the Heckman Auditorium on the campus of Doane University and is free to the public. Crete Public Library hosts Art Lab Event on April 16 "String Art"The Crete Public Library is hosting a "String Art" event on Tuesday, April 16 at 4 p.m. "String Art" is part of the library's Art Lab that meets on the 3rd Tuesday of each month at 4 p.m.

Saline County 4-H Clover Day May 28

Registration is open for Clover Day on May 28. The event is open to 4-H members ages 8 and older to create a variety of fair projects. Children under 10 years old must be accompanied by a parent or a youth aged 12 or older. The event is $30 and limited to 20 participants.

Girls soccer loses close match

The Crete girls’ soccer team played a close game with Conestoga on April 15, but lost 2-1.

Seward downs Crete-Milford on diamond

Seward scored five runs in the bottom of the fifth to defeat Crete-Milford 11-1 April 15. SHS scored its 11th run on a bases-loaded hit batter to end the game via the run rule. Kohltyn Lindau doubled twice for the Bluejays, and Triston Lenhoff was 2-2 with a double for Crete-Milford. Seward is scheduled to play at Mount Michael this afternoon, and Crete-Milford is set to play at Waverly.
