Grisak named veteran of the month

Andrew Grisak was named the Saline County Veteran of the Month at the board of commissioners meeting on March 19 and said joining the military got his life on the right path. Grisak served in the United States Army from February 2010 to March 2015 and spent part of his time overseas in Iraq. Grisak said he feels honored to have been selected as the veteran of the month.

Fire call at Fairfield Inn in Crete

Crete Fire and Rescue was called to the Fairfield Inn on March 26 at 6:51 p.m. The caller reported a dryer being on fire on the back side of the hotel. More information to follow.

Icicles hanging around

Wind blown icicles cling to the speed limit sign on 224th Street near the Saline and Seward county line the afternoon of March 26. Many area schools had a two hour late start due to dangerous road conditions. Temperatures will increase throughout the week, just in time for Easter egg hunts.

Doane art professor secures prestigious opportunity

Doane University Professor Eric Steans earned a spot in the Mid-America Arts Alliance's spring 2024 cohort of Artist Leadership Fellows. Look for the article about him in next week's edition of the Crete News to learn more about who he is and what he will do in the program.

Friend Public School sets date for preschool round up

Friend Public School will hold a preschool roundup event on April 12 at 9 a.m. for incoming three-year-olds and their parents. The event will be at the school located at 501 S. Main St. in Friend. Call (402) 947-2781 with questions.

Girls soccer moved back

The Crete girls' soccer game against Conestoga has been postponed and rescheduled to April 15 at 6 p.m.
