Wayne Edward Schupbach entered into eternal rest Feb. 4, 2025, in Lincoln, after a life well lived.

He cared deeply, loved generously, and with others, hoped extravagantly. He was born in Columbus to Edward and Irene Staub Schupbach on Sept. 12, 1941, and was ordained into the ministry of the United Church of Christ July 3, 1966. He served congregations in South Dakota, Nebraska and Kansas, including the  First Congregational United Church of Christ in Crete from 1977-1989, until retiring in 2006 and providing supply ministry through 2022.

Wayne especially enjoyed music, woodcarving, supporting his grandkids and recumbent bicycling around Lincoln and the Midwest.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Harriet (Sagehorn) Schupbach and is survived by children, Ross (Diane) and Lance (Michelle Paxton) Schupbach, Laurie Levorson, Mike (Joanne) and Paul (Blake) Messman, Sue Williamson and Linda (Mike) Hohbein; grandchildren, Owen, Harper, Amelia, Camden, Mike, John, David, Caroline, Libby, Teddy, Gareth, Trenton, Callan, Tayte, Solomon, Sarah, Samuell, Daniel, Trevor and Kevin; sister, Margaret Gigax; brother, Norman (Sylvia) Schupbach; as well as great-grandchildren and a legacy of caring and being present with others.

A celebration of Wayne’s life will be at First Plymouth Church in Lincoln on Saturday, March 15, at 11 a.m. Memorial contributions are suggested to United Theological Seminary of the Twin Cities and American Friends of Asian Rural Institute.
