Michael Kent Reiss, age 65, died Sept. 18, 2022, doing what he loved most in life, camping and fishing with his best friend and wife, Sandi, and good friends.

Mike was born Aug. 13, 1957, in Crete, to Delbert and Irene Reiss. He attended parochial school at St. John’s Lutheran church in Kramer, where he was also baptized and confirmed, until eighth grade.

He finished his education at Dorchester Public School, graduating in 1975. He then started working at Farmland Foods until he joined the U.S. Army in 1978 and was stationed in Germany. In 1980, Mike helped on the farm after his father, Delbert, was in a serious combine accident, which released him from the Army. He then went back to work at Farmland and continued working until he recently retired, for a total of 45 years.

On Jan. 30, 1982, he was married to Sandi Talbot of Crete. To this marriage, Mike welcomed Sandi’s daughter, Tanya.

Mike’s love in life was being outdoors, camping, fishing and hunting. His favorite lake was Milford Lake in Kansas, where his ashes will be spread. He had a heart of gold and would give the shirt off his back to anyone in need. He was a caretaker of his aging parents with a loving heart. Mike struggled through lung cancer and remission four times and never complained. His resilience and love for family and friends carried him through.

Mike was preceded in death by his mother, Irene Reiss; grandparents, Edwin and Irma Reiss; grandmother, Lillian Reiss, Al and Goldie Yost.

He is survived by his wife, Sandi; daughter, Tanya Talbot-Bush of Florida; granddaughter, Kimmi Bush and great-grandson, Ollie Bush of Delaware; granddaughter, Katie Bush of Vermont; father, Delbert Reiss of Crete; sister, Robin (Kent) Grotelueschen of Octavia; brother, Randy (Annette) Reiss of Lincoln; brother, David (Julie) Reiss of Waverly; sister-in-law, Eileen Dolan of North Platte; and several nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be Saturday, Sept. 24, at 11 a.m. at Kuncl Funeral Home in Crete. Condolences may be left for the family online at www.kunclfh.com.
