Mary Lou Hawkins passed away July 5, 2023, in Crete, at 83 years.

Mary Lou was a lover of animals, especially horses and dogs, having both in her life. She was an avid fan of Husker football and girls volleyball.

She worked for the Base Adjutant at Camp Pendleton, California, was a typesetter for 18 years, owning her own business while living in California. She worked at Region V in Crete, and was also a real estate agent for Woods Brothers in Beatrice and Anthony Realty in Wilber.

If you should choose to donate in memory of Mary Lou, she would have liked a donation going to any horse rescue or dog rescue, the People’s City Mission in Lincoln (helping the poor and homeless), or The Friendship Home (helps abused women leave the abuser), Lincoln. (She would have thanked you.)

She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Marion Jacobsen, Omaha; her sister, Gloria (Dick) Hawkins, Bennington; husbands, Tom Flynn and Gene Hawkins; and brothers-in-law, Gary Flynn and Jim Hawkins.

Mary Lou is survived by her children, Kat Flynn, Karen Hawkins of San Diego, California, and David Hawkins of Wilber; grandsons, Justin Flynn, San Diego, Vaughn (Krystal) and Caleb Cotton, Omaha; granddaughter, Devon Burks of Indiana; great-grandsons, Nathaniel and Caiden, San Diego, Callum Burks of Indiana; and uncle, Zeke Beranek of Jacksonville, Illinois.

There will be no funeral or memorial per her wishes.
