Marvin W. Ahl, formerly of Crete, passed away May 27, 2023, in Memphis, Tennessee, just two months shy of his 85th birthday.

He was born in Crete on July 27, 1938, to Elmer and Margaret (Stewart) Ahl. He grew up in Crete and attended Crete High School before enlisting in the United States Navy in 1956. While stationed in the Philippines he was part of a Seabees unit where he mastered the trade of cement finishing, which he took great pride in. Following his time in the Navy, he worked in the construction industry for more than 30 years before going to work for the Crete Public Schools until his retirement.

Marvin was married to Doris (Rahe) on Sept. 12, 1977, and they lived in Crete most of their married years until 2012,when they moved to Lincoln. Shortly after his wife, Doris, passed in 2018, Marvin moved to Memphis to live with his daughter, Becky, and her family. If you ask anyone who knew Marvin, they would tell you he was the hardest working, most honest man you could ever meet and that he always had a good joke to tell.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Doris; both of his sisters, Beth and Patsy; and his step-daughter, Christine. He is survived by his daughter, Becky (Alan) Bridgmon of Memphis; step-daughter Deb (Paul) Brejcha of Fairbury; step-son, Gary Meyers of Lincoln; step-daughter, Laura (Robyn) Thille of Western; 13 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Marvin chose to be cremated and to honor his wishes, the family will conduct a graveside remembrance on Saturday, July 22, at 11 a.m. at The Oak Grove Cemetery in DeWitt, where he will be buried with his wife, Doris. All family and friends are welcome. There will be a gathering that follows at 9th Street in Crete to continue the remembrance.
