Margaret Berniece Murray was born Nov. 27, 1934 at home east of Crete to William and Margaret (Shavlik) Muff. She died April 13, 2026, at the age of 91 in Springhill, Tennessee, surrounded by family and friends.
Berniece attended St. James Catholic School and graduated from Crete High School in 1952. She then attended Doane College, receiving her teaching certificate in 1954. She taught school in Seward, Walton and a country school by Ashland. Berniece married James Murray on Sept. 29, 1956, and they had five children.
Berniece is survived by her children and their spouses: Sharon and Mike Kastanek of Wilber, Jim and Jody Murray of Seymore, Tennessee, Martin and Vickie Murray of Lincoln, Brian and Olga Murray of Ijamville, Maryland, Beverly and Mark Wolfe of Springhill. Grandchildren include Christine and Mike Strubel, Michaela and JJ Willis, Kristin Murray, Amber Murray, Danielle Murray, Austin Murray, Tiffany Murray, Lee Wenzel, Ashley and Ryan Zmek, Justin and Chaundra Murray, Tyler Murray, Viktor Murray, Anton Murray, Shaliea Murray and Mitch Yoder, Dylan and Dalee Murray, Kayla and Mike Mason, Kylie and Alex Ferguson and Talitha Armbrust; 22 great-grandchildrenl and one great-great-grandchild; siblings and their spouses, Judy Muff, Vicky Muff, Loretta and Artie Kubicek, and Donna and Dwaine Novak.
She is preceded in death by her parents; siblings and their spouses, Ben and Claire Muff, Ron and Kathy Muff, Bill Muff, Florence and Don McKay, Gene and Theo Muff, Ken Muff, Paul and Laurel Muff; nephews, Keith Kemerling, Gene Muff, Jr.; and nieces, Barbara Muff and Christine Muff.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, April 20, at 10:30 AM at Sacred Heart Church in Crete. The Rosary will begin at 10:00 AM. Visitation is Sunday, 1 - 3 PM at Kuncl Funeral Home in Crete.
