Crete graduate and current Creighton women’s basketball player Morgan Maly recently hit a big milestone in her career – scoring 2,000 points.

The fifth-year senior has been a focal point for the Bluejays this season, averaging 17.5 points per game, 5.9 rebounds and is making almost 50% of her shots on the year.

Maly said it was “super cool” to hit 2,000 points and knew she was close to the milestone.

“I look at the stats just to see where things are, and I knew that it was realistic, so I knew it was coming up pretty soon,” Maly said.

Maly said she feels the Bluejays have had a really good season, winning the games they know they should, and falling short to a few really good teams.

“We’ve seemed to have found our chemistry and stride this past month of the regular season,” Maly said. “But you have to play as good as you can. You can’t overlook anyone.”

Maly said one of her favorite parts about the season so far was the Thanksgiving tournament they competed at in Florida.

“We got to see different competition, which was fun,” Maly said. “You tend to see the same teams on repeat.”

Maly also said the home crowd at D.J. Sokol Arena has been great this season with turnout being the best it's ever been.

Another great part about the season for Maly has been her time with her teammates. Maly said the team has a great bond this season and has had no drama whatsoever.

“Our team gets along so well,” Maly said.

Maly mentioned five of the older girls on the team have been together for a long time, which she feels has helped with the Bluejays being so close.

Maly said a lot of the upperclassmen live in the same apartment complex and do fun stuff outside of basketball, including a galentines celebration, team dinners and more.

Looking towards the postseason tournaments, Creighton is the No. 2 seed in the Big East tournament behind UConn and will more than likely qualify for the national tournament.

Maly said a key in those tournaments is not looking ahead. Maly said the team’s goals for both tournaments would be to make it to the Big East championship game and make it as far as possible in the national tournament, including making it past the first round and potentially making it to the sweet sixteen or elite eight levels.
