Exeter-Milligan and Friend school boards to vote on Monday

At their April board of education meetings both the Friend and Exeter-Milligan BOE members will cast their votes to decide if the proposed full academic and sports consolidation of the two school districts will be approved to begin in. A full merger would mean the creation of a brand new school district to be known as Exeter-Milligan-Friend (EMF) and a permanent mascot of the Bobcats, dissolving both current school districts. If the consolidation is approved, it will take effect for the 2025-26 school year.

Crete High School vocal music concert April 14

The Crete High School vocal music classes will perform a free concert in the high school auditorium on Sunday, April 14 at 4 p.m.

Spanish childcare academy series begins April 6

A Spanish childcare academy will be in Crete on Saturdays, April 6 to 20 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The classes will be at Public Health Solutions located at 830 East First St.
The program will share the necessary requirements to obtain a childcare license. This academy provides Safe with You training, information on how to start a childcare business and First Aid and CPR/AED training / certification. For assistance registering call (402) 870-2749.

Relay for Life coming to Doane University today

Relay for Life will be held at Doane University on Friday, April 5 in the Fuhrer Field House. The event runs from 6 p.m. to 12 a.m. and will feature speakers, carnival games and a silent auction. The Saline county fundraising goal is $35,000. Visit www.bit.ly/donaerelay to donate or sign up.

Beers of Nebraska at Milligan Auditorium April 13

The 17th annual Beers of Nebraska will be held at the Milligan Auditorium on Saturday, April 13 from 5-9 p.m. Tickets include tastings, roasted pork and dumplings, and discounted draws. For information go to the Milligan Community on Facebook. Tickets are $30 in advance and available through April 10. Tickets at the door are $35.

Grammy award winning polka band coming to Wilber

The two-time Grammy award-winning polka band, Brave Combo, is coming to Sokol Hall for the first time on April 5 from 7-10 p.m.
In addition to its two Grammy wins for polka music, the band has been nominated for its work seven times. Its music has been featured in films such as “The Personals'' and “David Bryne’s True Stories'' and shows including “Ugly Betty” and “Bakersfield P.D.'' They contributed original music to the Big Ten network and ESPN and appeared at Oktoberfest in an episode of “The Simpsons.”

Friend community shred day April 6

On April 6 residents of Friend are able to participate in a community shred day from 8-10 a.m. in the Citizens State Bank parking lot. Bring in documents that contain any identifying information such as old checkbooks, credit card offers and account statements. There is a 100 lb. limit per household. The bank is located at 150 Maple St. in Friend.

Crete BOE meeting will host special guest from Children's Hospital

Schools systems are the heart of communities and Crete is taking steps to become a "heart safe district."
The April 8 Crete Public Schools board of education meeting will host a special guest from Children's Hospital, Kim Castellano. The meeting will be at the Cardinal Welcome Center and begins at 6 p.m.
Castellano will speak about Project ADAM, an advocacy program for AEDs and CPR training in communities. Project ADAM is a nationwide initiative that has saved the lives of more than 200 children, adolescents and adults who went into sudden cardiac arrest. CM falls to Bennington

A six-run first inning for Bennington helped the Badgers to a 12-3 win over Crete-Milford baseball April 4. CM scored its runs in the sixth and seventh innings. Nine CM batters had one hit, with Jeffrey Kuncl and Nick Wendt hitting doubles. CM finishes a five-game week this afternoon against Lincoln Northwest. First pitch is set for 4:30 p.m. at Tuxedo Park.

Crete boys, girls pick up wins against Aurora

Both the Crete boys' and girls' soccer teams picked up wins against Aurora on April 4. The boys are now 6-0 and the girls are 3-3.

Golf places sixth at Norris

The Crete boys' golf team went to the Norris Invite and placed sixth out of 17 teams. Reece Vertin placed 14th with a 78.

Tennis competes at Grand Island

The Crete girls' tennis team mixed up its lineup at Grand Island on April 5 and went 0-4 in doubles and 1-4 in singles.
