David Muff, 74, of Crete, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on March 25, 2024.

He was born Dec. 20, 1949, to Alice (Vlasin) and Hubert Muff. David attended Valley View District 18 Country School until eighth grade and completed high school at Wilber-Clatonia in the graduating Class of 1968. He continued his education at Southeast Community College as a diesel mechanic. He married Teresa Giebenrath, on March 19, 1988, and they recently celebrated 36 years of marriage. Together they welcomed and treasured their two children. David was excited to recently become a grandfather for the first time.

David was friendly to everyone and enjoyed socializing as he always had a story to tell, especially over a cup of coffee. He was thoughtful and kind to his neighbors and always offered a helping hand. He greatly loved every member of his large family and was proud of all their accomplishments. David lived and worked on his family farm outside of Crete. He worked with his father and brothers tending cattle and crops and this is where he developed his passion for working with the land.

David was drafted into the army in July of 1970. He served in Vietnam as a specialist in the infantry company of the 1st Cavalry Division until he was honorably discharged in 1972. He was awarded an Army Commendation medal, Air medal, National Defense service medal, Vietnam service medal with one bronze service star, Vietnam campaign medal with 60 device, and a combat infantry-man badge. He was a vice commander of the American Legion #147,  a lifetime member of VFW Post #4959 and served on the honor squad for both.

David is survived by: his wife, Teresa, of Crete; daughter, Tasha (Justin) DeKok of Grand Island; son, Anthony of Crete; granddaughter, Camille DeKok of Grand Island; brothers and sisters, Carol Stewart of Central City, Pat Filip of Crete, Teresa (Gary) Heineman of Crete, Frank (Arlene) Muff of Crete, Barbara (Steven) Novotny of Ashland, Stephen (Darla) Muff of Crete, Mary (Joseph) Jazwick of Platte Center; father-in-law, Dale Giebenrath of Davey; mother-in-law, Delores Giebenrath of Lincoln; sister-in-law, Kathy Andelt of Pleasant Dale; brother-in-law, Randy Giebenrath of Davey; and by many loved nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his aunt, Rose (Vlasin) Cecava of Wallace and uncle, Ray Vlasin of Lansing, Michigan. He is preceded in death by his parents, Alice and Hubert Muff of Crete; and brother-in-laws, Donald Stewart of Central City and Dale Andelt of Pleasant Dale.

The funeral service will be Wednesday, April 3, at 10:30 a.m. at  Sacred Heart Catholic Church, where David was a lifetime member. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
