Dan Jay Underwood was born Feb. 6, 1947, and passed away on the evening of June 2, 2022.

He was born to Dan E. and Bertha “Dolly” (Ackerman) Underwood in Lincoln. He graduated from Crete High school in 1965. Immediately following high school, he joined the Navy and spent his naval career stationed on the east coast. He served as a telegraph operator on the navy’s command ship, the USS Wright.

Dan married Debbie Zeiss on April 22, 1966. With this union, they had two children, Danette and Danielle.

Dan married Linda “Sue” Prochaska on Feb. 16, 1979. With this union, they had Jessica and Dan.

Dan retired from the Crete Mills after working there for more than 40 years. Dan was passionate about classic Chevrolet cars, Victorian house design and architecture, historical war memorabilia and prided himself on a well-maintained lawn. Anyone who was in his life knew he was a quiet character, but could count on him to find humor in any situation and be there when you needed him. Dan loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Survivors include his sisters: Jodi Eggen, Dawn (Marv) Schaar; children, Danielle Bingham, Lincoln, Jessica (Nikki) Loos, Lincoln and Dan (Rebecca) Underwood, Crete; grandchildren, Taylor (John) Pfortmiller, Blake McLain, Parker Bingham, Dan Underwood, Alexander Johnson, Lilian Underwood and Evelyn Underwood; great-grandchild, Mogli Pfortmiller along with many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Dan and Dolly; daughter, Danette McLain; brother-in-law, Gibb Eggen; and brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Janice Underwood.
