Cyrill Hubert Kovar was born Nov. 3, 1931, in Seward, to Cyrill F. and Bessie Rose (Hromas) Kovar and passed away July 8, 2026, at the age of 94 years, 8 months and 5 days.
Cyrill grew up in the Garland area, where he attended Garland High School, graduating with the Class of 1949. He was employed and worked on farm machinery for a couple of years before enlisting into the U.S. Army on Jan. 25, 1952, in Omaha. Cyrill was stationed in Germany, where he was a Radio Operator. He was honorably discharged Jan. 18, 1954, at Fort Sheridan, Illinois.
On Aug. 9, 1955, Cyrill was united in marriage to Eunice “Jean” Fiedler at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Seward. The couple lived north of Dwight, where Cyrill farmed. In 1956, they moved to a farm north of Crete, where they raised their four children, Brad, Barb, Anne and Cyrill Robert. He enjoyed farming until his retirement in 2002.
Cyrill loved polka dancing, making wine, traveling, and going to casinos. He also enjoyed playing cards, especially Pitch and Pinochle. Cyrill was a long-time member of St. Mary ‘s Catholic Church in Denton, Knights of Columbus and Polka of A Nebraska.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Jean; son, Bradley; three brothers, Victor and wife, Annabelle Kovar, Gary Kovar, and Larry Kovar; two sisters, Gladys Roebke and husband, Lloyd and Betsy Fletcher; and two sisters-in-law, Toni Sue Bohac and Kathy Fiedler.
Survivors cherishing Cyrill’s memory include his two daughters, Barb and husband, Jason Eastman, North Platte, and Anne and husband, Jason Tidblom, Waterloo; son, Cyrill Robert and wife, Jessica Kovar, Southport, North Carolina; nine grandchildren, Sarah Kovar, Aaron Kovar, Lynn Fast and fiancé, Travis Sylvester, Heather and husband, Nick Maxcy, Terra and husband, Heath Zuellner, Josh Holmes, Landon Holmes, Hillary Kovar, Raquel Tidblom; 21 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Dan and wife, Delta Kovar, Ernie Kovar and Jeanne Frentz, and David and wife, Jean Kovar; two sisters-in-law, Vi Kovar and Judy Kovar; three brothers-in-law, Charles Fletcher, Richard Bohac and Wayne Fiedler; and Cyrill’s special friend, Ramona Svoboda, and her son, Kevin and wife Jill Svoboda and their children, Wyatt and Olivia.
Visitation will be Friday, July 10, from 1 – 8:30 p.m. at Zabka-Perdue Funeral Home in Seward with family present from 6 – 8 p.m. Funeral Mass is Saturday, July 11, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church in Denton at 10:30 a.m. A graveside service will be at the Seward Cemetery at 2 p.m. with full military honors provided by the United States Army, Seward VFW Post 4755 and the Seward American Legion Post 33.
