Crete falls short in week’s only match

Depth came to the fore for the Crete volleyball team against Columbus Lakeview Oct. 7. The Vikings downed the Cardinals 25-16, 25-14, 25-13.

“We did have some injuries and players gone for the match against Columbus Lakeview and it really showed our lack of depth, but I was proud of how our team stepped up and competed,” Coach Makayla Westphal said.

The match was the only one of the week, giving the Cardinals a little time off compared to most weeks, the coach said.

CHS (7-17) was to host Seward and Milford for a triangular Oct. 12 and compete in the Central Conference tournament Thursday and Saturday, Oct. 14 and 16.

“We do have a great week of competition coming up and we are excited to get back to work,” Westphal said. “One thing we are continually seeking is just an all-out effort. The girls have shown a lot of fight, but we have to keep focusing on next point mentality and serving and passing more aggressive in each game.”
