The Crete boys’ basketball team gave it everything they had but fell short to a familiar opponent in the state boys basketball tournament semifinal, losing 55-47 on March 8.

Crete played Omaha Skutt back in December for the holiday tournament and took down the Skyhawks 58-52.

Crete started out fast in the first half, scoring 18 in the first quarter and 13 in the second to take a 31-26 lead in the half. Aidan McDowell had 21 points in the first half.

Crete outscored Skutt in the third quarter 12-11, but the Cardinals struggled to score points in the fourth quarter and Skutt outscored Crete 18-4 to take the win.

McDowell finished with 24 points on the day.

Crete finishes the season 26-1 and falls one game short of making the state championship.
