Board of Education Regular Meeting Monday, July 15, 2019 8:00 PM Dorchester Public School Conference Room 506 W. 9th Street Dorchester, NE 68343-0007 Notice of the time and place of the Dorchester Board of Education meeting was published at the Dorchester Public Schools, Farmers Coop, First State Bank and the Village Office. Individual board members received in advance the meeting agenda and meeting materials. Pursuant to Section 84-1412 of the Nebraska Statutes, the public is hereby informed that a current copy of the Nebraska Open Meetings Act is posted in the Board meeting boardroom. Also present are Superintendent Daryl Schrunk, Principal Adrian Allen and Linda Woolsey. Sarah Wenz, patron, would like to visit with the board about the school library. Sarah Wenz shared her family background. Her mother, Shannon Wenz was a 2nd-grade teacher for many years at Dorchester and her father, Bill Wenz, a local businessman. She would like to have the school library named the "Shannon C. Wenz Memorial Library". She would assist with the expense of plaques inside and out, along with some additional funds. She will forward information on the plaques to Mr. Schrunk. Request for Change of Agenda No request for change of agenda. Approval of the Minutes of the Last Meetings Motion to approve the reading of the last meetings minutes passed with a motion by Neal Pavlish and a second by Matthew Hansen. Passed 5-0. Schweitzer Absent. Financial Report Motion to approve the financial report passed with a motion by Matthew Hansen and a second by Carol Schnell. Passed 6-0. Reports Principal's Report Mr. Allen presented information on his attendance at the Principal's Retreat. He met with Dr. Boss at ESU6 to discuss creating a high reliability school at Dorchester. We had 15 youth attending our football camp July 8-9. Administrator Days July 31-Aug 2, new staff orientation Aug. 9 and staff in-service August 12-13. Superintendent's Report Mr. Schrunk presented his vacation and sick days taken in 2018-2019. NASB Area Membership Meeting in York on September 4th at 5:00 PM. Discussion Items Discussion regarding replacement of (3) outside doors: Art Room Kindergarten Library These doors are starting to rust at the bottom. Further bids and details will be gathered Review LB 103 -- Change the procedure for setting a political subdivision's property tax request. Mr. Schrunk reviewed LB 103 with the Board. First Reading of Board of Education Policies #3046 Animals at School, #4048 Assessment Administration and Security, #4052 Job References to Prospective Employers, #5002 Admission of Students, #5016 Student Records, #5017 Routine Directory Information, #5022 Investigations, Arrests, and Other Student Contact by Law Enforcement and Health and Human Services, and #5035 Student Discipline. Mr. Schrunk presented policies #3046, #4048, #4052, #4052, #5016, #5017 Directory Information, #5022 and #5035. Updates were accepted as presented. Consider approving Board of Education Policies #6007-Senior Recognition and #6008-Class Rank. Motion to approve Board of Education Policies #6007-Senior Recognition and #6008-Class Rank passed with a motion by Carol Schnell and a second by Matthew Hansen. Passed 6-0. Consider increasing substitute teacher pay to $135/day for 2019-20. This motion is tabled for additional information. Consider approving concrete for sidewalk and parking on west side of school. Motion to approve bid from Klein Construction for sidewalk and parking on west side of school passed with a motion by Carol Schnell and a second by Kelli Schweitzer. Passed 6-0.
