Board of Education Regular Meeting Monday, January 13, 2020 7:00 PM Public School Library 506 W. 9th Street Dorchester, NE 68343-0007 Notice of the time and place of the Dorchester Board of Education meeting was published at the Dorchester Public Schools, Farmers Coop, First State Bank and the Village Office. Individual board members received in advance the meeting agenda and meeting materials. Pursuant to Section 84-1412 of the Nebraska Statutes, the public is hereby informed that a current copy of the Nebraska Open Meetings Act is posted in the Board meeting boardroom. Matthew Hansen: Present Mike Hatfield: Present Neal Pavlish: Present Carol Schnell: Present Kelli Schweitzer: Present Steve Vyhnalek: Present Call to Order and Announce Open Meetings Act Verification The January Board meeting was called to order by President Steve Vyhnalek at 7:00 pm with all board members present. Roll Call Also present are Superintendent Daryl Schrunk, Principal Adrian Allen and Linda Woolsey. Receive Visitors and Announce Open Forum for Public Comment No visitors present. Request for Change of Agenda No request for change of agenda. Reorganization of the Board of Education by Nomination and Roll Call or Ballot Vote A motion was made to retain the same officers passed with a motion by Matthew Hansen and a second by Carol Schnell. Passed 6-0. Approval of the Minutes of the Last Meeting Motion to approve the reading of the last meeting minutes passed with a motion by Kelli Schweitzer and a second by Matthew Hansen. Passed 6-0. Financial Report Motion to approve the financial report passed with a motion by Carol Schnell and a second by Matthew Hansen. Passed 6-0. Reports Principal's Report Mr. Adrian Allen presented information on the December 20th excellence rally. DHS girls basketball team placed 1st place in the Weeping Water holiday tournament. All teachers and paras attended the Blue River Cohort on January 5th. Mr. Allen is working on the Professional Learning Community for aligning curriculum with standards and prioritizing standards. Elementary and Secondary Christmas concerts were held in December. Upcoming events are the CRC Conference Basketball Tourney January 25-31 in York and CRC Wrestling Invite February 5th at East Butler. Mr. Allen is checking on preventive maintenance for the Push Pedal Pull equipment in the weight room. Superintendent's Report Mr. Daryl Schrunk presented information on the Board Retreat's possible date of March 2nd. Mr. Schrunk shared replacement plans for carpet and vehicle in 2020. We would like to increase the number of internet access points throughout the school with Erate funding covering approximately 70% of the cost. Mr. Schrunk presented information on the NASB Legislative Conference to be held February 9th & 10th. Discussion Items Review Board of Education Policies #5019-5020 & 5023-5024. Mr. Schrunk presented policies #5019 - Communicating with Parents, #5020 - Rights of Custodial and Non-Custodial Parents, #5023 - Student Illness and #5024 - Medication of Students. No changes to these policies were necessary. Review the District Annual Report Mr. Schrunk presented information on the 2019-2020 Annual Report. The full report will be available to view on the Dorchester School website. Discuss additional cameras for better coverage inside and outside the building. Mr. Schrunk presented a quote from Americom for additional cameras for security reasons. No action taken. Action Items Appointment of Board Committees for 2020: Public Relations, Committee on American Civics/Curriculum, Building/Grounds, Negotiations, Wellness, Transportation Motion for the appointment of Board Committees for 2020: Public Relations, Committee on American Civics/Curriculum, Building/Grounds, Negotiations, Wellness, Transportation to retain committees as in previous year passed with a motion by Mike Hatfield and a second by Kelli Schweitzer. Passed 6-0. Consider Retaining the following as the official designees for 2020: 1) Representative for State and Federal Programs - Superintendent or designee, 2) School Attorneys - KSB Law, 3) Newspaper - Crete News, and 4) Depository of District Funds - First State Bank, Dorchester Branch. Motion to retain the following as the official designees for 2020: 1) Representative for State and Federal Programs - Superintendent or designee, 2) School Attorneys - KSB Law, 3) Newspaper - Crete News, and 4) Depository of District Funds - First State Bank, Dorchester Branch passed with a motion by Carol Schnell and a second by Matthew Hansen. Passed 6-0. Consider approving contract Motion to approve contract for EL Para Angelica Tellez passed with a motion by Carol Schnell and a second by Mike Hatfield. Passed 6-0. Consider Approving the District's 2020-2021 Negotiated Agreement with the Certificated Staff. Motion to approve the district's 2020-2021 negotiated agreement with the certificated staff passed with a motion by Matthew Hansen and a second by Kelli Schweitzer. Passed 5-1. Pavlish - Nay. Consider contract and salary for Superintendent. Motion to approve contract and salary for Superintendent passed with a motion by Carol Schnell and a second by Matthew Hansen. Passed 6-0.
