With its runner-up status in the D2 state championship, the Dorchester girls’ basketball team became the most winning team in school history.

“It honestly feels good to accomplish this,” Coach Brandon Bruha said. “There is a lot of work that is put into this not just from us as coaches but the players have put in a lot of time and sacrificed a lot. So it is nice to see the girls have success and this wouldn't have happened without their dedication and effort to the program.”

Bruha said the team was excited when they found out they passed the record.

As an athlete and a coach, Bruha said it takes a lot to be able to hit a milestone like this.

“It takes a lot of time. You sacrifice a lot of your summer,” Bruha said. “A lot of coaches know that winning doesn't just happen during the season. I am a believer that if you expect your players to work on their game, go to summer weights and attend camps. You better be there with them and lead by example.”

Although this team is very talented, Bruha said he feels the success this team has seen stems from last year’s.

“Last year's team and this year's team I feel are very similar,” Bruha said. “Our record last year was 16-7 and that was the most wins we have had in a long time, so I feel that our success this year comes from that. This group though is ready to go every day. If it is practice, film or games, they are ready for whatever is next and always giving their best effort at it.”

Even with the team not winning the tournament, Bruha said one of his favorite memories of the season so far is the Crossroads Conference tournament. He said he liked the intensity and how his team handled adversity.

“Not being 100% the whole tournament we found a way to win two close games that came down to last second defensive stops,” Bruha said.

After this season comes to an end, Bruha said the key to continuing this success is buy-in.

“You hope year to year the buy-in will continue and the success will keep coming,” Bruha said. “Having a season like we are having right now you hope that motivates the future and it'll keep the ball rolling.”

Dorchester finished the season 25-3.
