LaVerna Adeline (Wendelin) Kattau was born at home in Lancaster County on Dec. 7, 1920, to her parents, Willie and Emma (Poertner) Wendelin. Family and friends also called her Kate. LaVerna was one of four children born in this marriage.

She was baptized by Pastor Albert Cholcher on Jan. 16, 1921, and was confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church near Kramer on April 1, 1934, by Pastor Cholcher. She attended country school district #16 for seven years and graduated from eighth grade at St. John’s Parochial school in 1934. She was married to Raymond Kattau on Dec. 20, 1938, by Pastor Carl Pebler. They lived on a farm near Hallam for 24 years before moving to Crete in September 1962. Raymond died Oct. 23, 1989. LaVerna was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Kramer all her life. She also went to the J.O.Y. group and worked at Formfit 24 years. She enjoyed keeping up her home, flowers outdoors, going for drives, especially during the fall of the year.

She is survived by sister-in-law and spouse, Olga and Fredrick Weidner of Hallam; nieces and nephews and their families, Diane Gropp, Julie and Jon Geiger and Landry, Mike Gropp; Carleen and Glen Andersen, Darin and Dawn Andersen, Emily and Geoff DeOld, Bill and Cindy Weidner, Amanda and Keith Ripperda, Keri and Ben Moore, Matt and Georgina Weidner, Adam and Emily Weidner; Russell and Michelle Weidner, Jarod Weidner, Elizabeth Weidner, Calen Weidner; Debra Wendelin; Todd and Maria Wendelin, Whitney, Kelsey, and Mitchell Wendelln; Marilyn Weidner; Ronald Weidner; Denise and Frank Slama, Victoria Slama, Charles and Codi Slama; Dennis Kattau; Debra and Tom Ourada, Eric and Blythe Dewey, Jaclyn and Jace Ourada; Douglas Kattau, Madison Kattau; special relative, Jerry Schmutte; also several cousins and good friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Kattau; parents, Willie and Emma Wendelin; brothers and sisters-in-law, Elmer and LaVerne Wendelin, Glen and Rosie Wendelin; sister and brother-in-law, Blanche and Carl Weidner; parents-in-law, Fred and Katie Kattau; brothers-in-law, Fred Kattau, Dewayne Kattau, and Herman and wife Annice Weidner; sister-in-law, Wilhelmina Kattau; and Dale Gropp.,
