Diane Louise (Halada) Safranek, 78, passed away quietly April 23, 2022, at Bryan Medical Center East, Lincoln.

She was born Aug. 19, 1943, to Adolph and Emma Halada in Crete, where she lived her entire life. She was united in marriage in March 1963 to her high school sweetheart, Ronald Safranek in Crete. They enjoyed more than 59 years together, first living in Crete for several years before moving to a small farm outside of Crete, where they attended to a variety of farm animals, including goats and horses.

Diane was employed as a human resources officer with the State of Nebraska Department of Health for 37 years when she retired in 2000.

She was a member of the Blue River Riders Saddle Club, a 4-H horse club leader for 35 years and served more than 20 years with the Saline County Agricultural Society. Diane enjoyed traveling throughout Nebraska, Kansas, Iowa and South Dakota to announce various horse shows at county fairs, state fairs and 4H competitions. Diane was also president of the senior citizens for several years.

Diane was also an avid bowler in Crete and traveled across Nebraska attending yearly state bowling tournaments. She also attended national bowling tournaments from Washington to Florida.

She was proceeded in death by parents Adolph and Emma Halada; in-laws, Henry and Nellie Safranek, all of Crete; brothers-in-law, Lyle Safranek and Sam Day; sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Walter Hupka; brother, Delvin Halada; nephews, Gary Hupka and Rick Hupka; and favorite cousin, Gladys Stevenson. She is urvived by husband, Ronald Safranek of Crete; sister-in-law, Sharon Day; nieces, Debbie (Mike) Yost, Dixie (Rich) Kornfeld, Dorie (Joe) Sittler, Tracy Day, Kelly (Randy) Brummett, Cory Day and Mike (Jessie) Day along with many great-nieces and nephews.

No services are scheduled. A casual gathering with family will be Saturday, May 21, at the Crete VFW Club from 1 to 4 p.m. Condolences may be left for the family online at aspenaftercare.com.
