It is with great sadness that we announce the death of David James Currie, of Lincoln, who passed away March 29, 2022, at the age of 76, leaving to mourn family and friends.

David was born May 25, 1945, in Friend, to Morris and Eloise (Schmidt) Currie. He attended Crete Public Schools, graduating in 1963. After graduating high school, David farmed in Crete for 39 years. He married the love of his life, JoAnn Porter, on March 16, 1968. David and JoAnn were blessed with three children, Susan, Lisa and Brian. David graduated from Southeast Community College, followed by Doane College in 1995. After graduation, David continued farming while managing the parts department with Rod’s Outdoor Power and later with Lincoln Turf and Tractor. He continued his work in parts and sales with Small Engine Specialists until his retirement.

His home and family held the first place in his thoughts. David will be remembered for his great sense of humor, storytelling and his strong faith. He was a long-standing member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Crete. He was confirmed there on May 17, 1959, which brought great joy to his life. He was welcomed into Messiah Lutheran Church in Lincoln, where he worshiped until his death. He endured Type 1 diabetes for 64 years and was always patient and considerate despite his health condition.

David is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, JoAnn (Porter); and his children, Susan (Chris), Lisa, and Brian. He is also survived by two sisters, Kathyrn and Linda (Gayle); four grandchildren, Nicholas, Jacob, Alex and Ella, numerous sisters and brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews, cousins  and other extended family members and close friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Morris and Eloise Currie; grandparents, David and Sophia Schmidt and James and Katherine Currie; brothers-in-law, Jerry Porter and Ryan Roberts, and other cherished family members and friends.

A memorial service was April 4 at Messiah Lutheran Church in Lincoln. Memorial contributions are suggested to Messiah Lutheran School or Camp Floyd Rogers for children with diabetes. Condolences may be left for the family online at Roperandsons.com.
