With the Fourth of July comes barbecues, get togethers and of course, fireworks.
As the staple of any Fourth of July celebration, Tod Allen, chief of the Crete Volunteer Fire Department, wants to remind Crete residents of safety precautions to take during their holiday festivities.
With the hot weather and dry conditions in past weeks, Allen said fireworks can cause concern for grass fires unless the rain persists.
“I'd like it if when everybody is lighting fireworks, if they have something around to put out little fires,” Allen said. “A garden hose is easy to keep around, and you'd be surprised how much you could put out with a pump sprayer like you use for your garden.”
